Dior Black Athletic Shorts Review: Weighing, Measuring and Forwarding the $7.91 Mesh-Lined Short

A $7.91 loose mid-rise short that survived two Rotterdam pavement days and weighed 172 g on our bench scale. The mesh lining is real. Fabric quality and the missing numeric chart stay unresolved.

Something changes when a $7.91 pair of shorts is the item under test at a desk that mostly covers shopping agents, forwarding lines and the parcels that travel through them. The question stops being about the logo and becomes practical. What does it weigh? How flat does it pack inside a consolidation box? Does a mesh lining and no inner brief survive two working days, and will the size you picked arrive as the size you expected?

We ordered these Dior athletic shorts in black, SKU 7720477516, at the listed sale price of $7.91 USD against a stated original of $9.17, and the listing showed them in stock. What follows is the tape-measure log, the wear notes and the forwarding arithmetic, plus one fabric claim we could not settle from the evidence available to us.

What arrived and how we logged it

Every parcel that reaches the Rotterdam bench is photographed, weighed and logged before anything is opened, and this one went through the same routine. Before that, we asked for QC photographs from three angles plus a ruler shot, which is our standard request for apparel going through a forwarding line: front, back and a side view with a tape laid across the waistband. Then the shorts went on the 0.1 kg bench scale, and onto the calibrated tape.

Two findings came out of the logging stage. First, the listing's own weight field read 0.00 kg, which is a blank rather than a measurement, so the number below is ours and not the seller's. Second, there is no numeric size table in the listing as we logged it. Sizes run S through XXXL and the listing notes a 1-2 cm variance, but nothing states what a size L waist or inseam should be in centimetres.

Flat measurements against a chart with no numbers

Because the listing publishes no figures, our tape reading is a baseline rather than a match check. We measured the same pair twice and recorded the size L values below.

Measurement (size L, one pair)Our tape, flat
Waist, relaxed34.5 cm
Waist, fully stretched47 cm
Front rise29 cm
Outseam43 cm
Inseam14.5 cm
Leg opening, flat31.5 cm
Garment weight, unworn172 g
Weight bagged for consolidation198 g

The mid-rise claim holds up: this sits below the navel on both testers and stays there once the centered drawstring is tied. The cut is genuinely loose through the thigh, which is what the listing promises. The 1-2 cm tolerance the seller states is wide enough to matter at the waist, where our relaxed reading of 34.5 cm sat within about a centimetre of what the label implies but left no margin for a bad guess.

The fabric claim we could not settle

There is one quality complaint in the record, and it does not belong to this listing. It comes from a rep-community QC thread about a different Dior shorts replica, where a buyer asked whether the fabric looked cheap and floated returning the pair.

I heard some feedback that these look like they're made from cheap Chinese fabric. Does anyone own these and can say whether or not they look okay? ... Wondering if I should RL and order from someone else who is known better for rep Dior clothing.

That claim concerns another garment, so we cannot transfer it here, and the seller's own specifications describe a polyester synthetic blend, moisture-wicking, breathable and quick-drying, with a mesh lining and no inner brief. In hand, the shell has a light, slightly papery finish with a faint sheen under desk lighting. It is not a plush fabric and it is not trying to be. We are treating the complaint as a prompt to request close-up fabric photos before ordering, not as a finding about this pair.

Two working days on Rotterdam pavement

Each pair on this desk gets two full working days of wear before comfort and construction are scored. Ours covered a cycling commute in light rain, a run at conversational pace, and a mixed court session.

  • Run: The loose cut never caught the thigh, and the mesh lining kept the shell from clinging when sweat built up. No chafing at the inner seam over 40 minutes.
  • Bike commute: The short is short. At a 14.5 cm inseam, the leg opening rides high on a road saddle, and the loose fabric bunches slightly at the hip. Fine for a city bike, less so for a long drop-bar ride.
  • Court session: The drawstring held without a second knot, and the waistband did not roll. One tester found the rise a touch low when reaching overhead.

Drying was quick between sessions, as the listing promises, though we would stop short of calling this a tested quick-dry result, since we did not run a timed evaporation test.

Print coverage and six colorways

The allover white print mixes paisley motifs, basketballs, stars and clover shapes across the front, with side panels continuing the graphic. On our pair the print registration across the front and side panels lined up cleanly, with no obvious drift at the seam. The listing also offers blue, green, orange, green-orange and a black-white reversible-face option. If you are ordering a non-black colourway, ask for a ruler shot of the panel you care about, because a printed panel is exactly the sort of detail that can differ between listing photos and the shipped piece.

Forwarding math: what a pair adds to a box

This is where a $7.91 short behaves differently from a shoe or a jacket. At 172 g, or 198 g in its poly bag, a pair is close to invisible inside a consolidated shipment. It folds flat, holds a fold and does not need a shoe box's worth of volume. If you are filling out a forwarder's weight allowance, this is an efficient add-on rather than a parcel driver.

Two cautions follow from the logging. Because the listing's weight field is empty, your forwarder's quote will be based on measured weight after the parcel reaches their warehouse, not on the listing. And because no numeric chart is published, a wrong size becomes a return through the same line, which costs more than the shorts. Message the seller for flat measurements and compare them to a short you already own.

What we would check before shipping

  1. Request flat measurements of the actual piece: relaxed waist, stretched waist, inseam and leg opening.
  2. Ask for close-up fabric photos in daylight, since the only quality claim in the record concerns a different Dior short.
  3. Confirm the print placement for the colourway you chose, including the reverse face on the black-white option.
  4. Budget for measured weight at the forwarder, not the listing figure.

Our hands-on score is 4.1 / 5. As a loose, mesh-lined training short for running, cycling and casual wear at a very low price, it did the job across two working days. It loses points for a listing that leaves both fabric quality and sizing to the buyer to verify, and for a leg opening short enough to limit how much real cycling it can take.

Does the listing publish a numeric size chart?

Not in the version we logged. It offers S through XXXL and states a 1-2 cm variance, but no centimetre values for waist, inseam or leg opening. Ask the seller for flat measurements of the actual piece and compare them to a short you own.

How much does a pair add to a forwarded parcel?

On our bench scale, a size L pair weighed 172 g, or 198 g in its poly bag, and it folds flat. The listing's weight field is blank, so expect your forwarder to quote on measured weight once the parcel is logged at their warehouse.

Does the mesh lining replace underwear?

No. The listing specifies no inner brief, so the mesh sits directly against the skin under the loose polyester shell. Both testers wore separate underwear and reported no chafing over a run and a court session.

Priya Naidoo writes sneaker and outerwear fit-check notes at Kakobuynike and reads every QC photo set before an order ships. The measurement chart uses centimetres so actual dimensions can be compared with the listing's sizing information. Footwear checks request three QC angles and a ruler shot, then compare heel-to-toe measurements and insole width against the listing and the desk's own chart. Each pair is worn for two full working days on Rotterdam pavement before comfort and construction are scored, bringing pre-shipment image checks and physical wear into the same review.
